Cosmas K Zimba
Chairperson
My motivation for doing this work stems from a desire to help others, a deep sense of responsibility and compassion for those around me. I believe that everyone deserves access to basic necessities and opportunities for a better life, things like water, food, health care and education and I want to contribute to a cause I’m passionate about. Engaging in this local organisation allows me to support in addressing the needs of communities we are involved with, whether through feeding programs, educational programs, youth support programs, college students scholarships or health initiatives. I find fulfilment in building connections with the people I work with and empowering them to overcome challenges around them. As I’m a testimony - I am because someone helped, gave and supported me to be now here... I owe it to God and to them to pay it forward.
Additionally, this work enriches my perspective, fostering gratitude and reinforcing the importance of solidarity and support within a community. Ultimately, I am motivated by a desire to create positive change and inspire others to get involved, making our communities a better place for all.

I’ve been involved with GHZ since 2020 when I was living in Lusaka at the time and became acquainted with their work.
Supporting local initiatives really appealed to me, and I saw the great impact their work had on so many lives, particularly the lives of children.
Now that I live in NL again, I like to stay involved as a board member.

Tinja Huijgen
Treasurer
After many years working in financial management with international corporates in the Netherlands, I transitioned to working in the non-profit sector with international NGO’s in conflict contexts such as South Sudan, Liberia and Iraq.
It was during those years overseas that I came to see first hand, both the challenges of having quality education, finding good work opportunities and accessing health care that often comes with living in the Majority World, as well as the huge benefits for individuals and families where education, work and health care is provided within their communities.
Now that I am based again in the Netherlands, I am privileged to be able to serve Grassroots Heroes. Their vision and values inspire me to work and pray for positive change for the communities they seek to support.
You can be involved as a board member, a volunteer to help get the word out and raise funds, or by taking a trip to "catch the vision."
Grassroots Heroes Netherlands is in the process of registering with the Dutch authorities as a Stichting.
Our sister organisation in the USA is Grassroots Heroes International.
